Vote rewards are one of the best ways to keep players coming back. When a player votes for your server, they get an item, money or a crate key in the game. The technology behind this is NuVotifier, a plugin that receives vote notifications from server lists. This guide walks you through the full setup on a MineList listing.
What NuVotifier does
NuVotifier listens on a network port. When a player votes on MineList, our site sends a short signed message to that port. NuVotifier checks it and fires a vote event inside your server. Another plugin then listens for the event and gives the reward. NuVotifier alone does not give rewards, it only delivers the vote.
It exists for Spigot, Paper and similar servers, and for proxies like BungeeCord and Velocity. If you run a network, install it on the proxy so you receive votes once, not per backend server.
Step 1 Install the plugin
1. Download NuVotifier from a trusted source such as its official project page.
2. Put the jar file into your server's plugins folder.
3. Restart the server. The plugin creates its folder with a configuration file and a pair of RSA keys.
Step 2 Check the configuration
Open the configuration file in the NuVotifier folder. The important settings are:
- host. Usually `0.0.0.0`, which means listen on all interfaces.
- port. The default is 8192. Choose a different one if it is already used.
- tokens. A secret per service, used by protocol version 2. The plugin generates a default token. You can add a separate one for MineList.
The public RSA key for version 1 is stored in the rsa folder in a file called public.key. Never share the private key.
Step 3 Open the port
The port must be reachable from the internet. Check the hosting panel or firewall and allow TCP traffic on your Votifier port. On a VPS you may use your firewall tool to add the rule. On managed hosting, look for an additional port or allocation, because some hosts give only the main game port. If you cannot open another port, ask your host whether they support Votifier on the game port.
If you use a proxy and backend servers, open the port on the machine that runs NuVotifier.
Step 4 Connect it to MineList
1. Add your server and claim it if you have not done so.
2. Open the owner panel and the voting section.
3. Enter the server's address as host and the Votifier port.
4. For protocol version 2 paste the token. For version 1 paste the public key from public.key, copied as a single line without extra spaces.
5. Click Send test vote.
The server console should print a message that a vote was received from MineList. If it does, the connection works.
Step 5 Give rewards
You need a plugin that listens for vote events. Popular choices include VotingPlugin and SuperbVote. Both let you set commands that run when a vote arrives, for example a command that gives an item or money. Typical settings are:
- A basic reward for every vote.
- A bigger reward after a number of votes in a row.
- A reward that is saved for offline players and given at their next login.
- A monthly top voter prize.
Use the player's name in the command, for example `give %player% diamond 3`. The exact placeholder depends on the plugin, so check its documentation.
Alternative with the API
If you cannot open a port, you can poll the MineList API instead. A small script or plugin can call the claim endpoint when a player joins and give a reward when the answer says the vote was claimed. See the API documentation for the exact requests.
Troubleshooting
- Test vote fails. The port is closed, the host is wrong or the key was changed. Check the firewall first.
- Vote is received but there is no reward. NuVotifier works, but the reward plugin has a wrong command or does not listen to the event. Read its log.
- Players report missing rewards. They might have a different nick spelling, or the reward plugin only gives rewards while the player is online.
- After updating keys nothing works. Copy the new public key or token again into the panel.
Why it is worth it
Servers that reward voting see steady daily activity and move up in the monthly ranking. That brings new players who see your server near the top. For wording and rules on the player side, link your players to how to vote.
